Classical Choice Of The Week

Storm Crows

I pour my sorrow into numbness -
the absolute of defection
that welcomes in the smoke
with which to blind the day.

See, I smile through cracked lips
and salt tracks mark out my eyes
as I stare through and through
the crow that seeks to console.

I find an edge of discomfort,
no more, as fingers gouge
the flesh of palms. The crow
suggests peace might be found

in other nails and other palms.
I smile again, brush away the rain
that flatters the shoulders
of the black suit I wear.
